A new federal strategic plan aims to reduce American homelessness by 25 percent in 2025.
- America has not done a great job of preventing homelessness before it happens, Jeff Olivet, executive director of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, said.
- Part of the problem, Olivet explained, is the lack of supply of affordable housing and the fact that wages do not always keep up with housing prices.
- There are programs that can help people who may be at risk of experiencing homelessness, but the programs are not at a large enough scale to meet the current demand, he stated.
