Federal employees now have more benefits thanks to recently signed legislation. Family Leave will soon be guaranteed for workers, and Thrift Savings Plan members are able to make more varied withdrawals. Greg Klingler, director at GEBA Wealth Management, says that some funds are better than others for plan participants.
“G fund is excellent for what it is, but having a fund that’s invested entirely in the G-fund is typically not what you’re going to want to have your money in. At the end of the day, even if you are retired, and you retire today, there are dollars that you are not going to spend for 20-30 years in the future. Those should have equity exposure,” Klingler said. “It was only until a couple years ago that the G-fund actually represented the highest majority, the highest amount of money in any fund. It was over the last two years surpassed by the C fund, but that happened very, very recently.”
