The United States will purchase another 500 million Covid-19 vaccine doses from Pfizer. Those doses will be donated to low-income countries through USAID.
- Ellyn Ogden, Emergency Operations Center Leader for the Covid-19 Vaccine Access and Delivery Unit at USAID, said the distribution has been incredibly complex but rewarding, as people have been lining up to receive the shots and have a “real sense of hope.”
- Ogden said her office is working closely with other countries to deliver the vaccines, syringes and supplies, develop planning and distribution systems and communicate about where to get the vaccine.
- She said USAID is providing vaccines to over 125 countries and tracking infection and immunization rates to ensure coverage in as many areas as possible.
