Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin recently met with his counterpart in South Korea. The civilian leaders agreed to update their plans for a potential war with North Korea, in response to new weapons tests carried out by the communist regime.
- David Choi, news reporter for Stars and Stripes, said there have been a variety of new weapons tests this year and that some defense officials argue “it’s about time” for a new operational war plan implementation.
- Choi said little of the strategic planning guidance is public and that nothing has been set in stone or thoroughly discussed.
- He said North Korea’s rhetoric has not changed much in response to the coordination between the two countries.
