Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin says he will commit $1.5 billion to the Pentagon’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC). The JAIC’s mission is to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption to serve military operations.
- Robert Work, former deputy secretary of defense, now co-chair of the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence, said operator trust will be the determining factor in how fast the Defense Department implements artificial intelligence activities.
- Work said the funding will provide the foundation necessary to make the Defense Department a world-class AI competitor.
- Artificial intelligence provides information to humans that allows for better decision making as the world moves into a new era of “intelligentized” warfare, Work said.
