More and more members of Congress are showing support for federal workers. Since the government shutdown at the start of the year, both sides of the aisle have shown an increased appreciation for employees both in D.C. and in their districts. Danny Werfel, director at the Boston Consulting Group, says that he hopes the trend continues.
“I hope that our members of Congress are going to follow a true north as much as possible. When they are following true north, they recognize two things: One, that there are incredible public servants today doing really critical work, that are making lives better for Americans,” Werfel said. “We also have to think about future federal employees. There is a need. Whether you are in favor of big government or small government, you want that government to work effectively. To do that, we need to bring talented people into government. The more you are around government, you realize that we have scientists and doctors, lawyers and accountants, nurses, engineers, and all doing incredibly important work. And we have to start recognizing that if we want to build a pipeline of talent into the government.”
