The Department of Energy establishes CESER office
Brig. Gen. Gregory Touhill (USAF, ret.), President of Cyxtera Federal Group, discusses the Department of Energy’s new security and emergency response office and the recently released FISMA scores.
The Energy Department is establishing a new office to cover major security issues. According to FCW, the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response’s first permanent leader will be Karen Evans, formerly CIO at DoE. The office forms the latest ‘sector specific’ addition to the security framework of the US government.
“Frankly, I think it’s about time that we have offices like this standing up in sector specific agencies,” said Brig. Gen. Gregory Touhill (USAF, ret.), President of Cyxtera Federal Group. “Over the last couple years, we have been encouraging the sector specific agencies to have the capability to do the incident response mission set that is clearly called out in the cybersecurity frame work. So, I’m really encouraged by this, and I’m looking forward to seeing the CESER office stand up. But also, to work closely with the US-CERT, to make sure that they’re mission ready.”
