The changing skill set for acquisition professionals
Bill Weinberg, former director of the Office at Acquisition Management at Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and managing director of Federal Practice at Guidepost Solutions, discusses how acquisition is changing in the federal government, and how it could catch up with the commercial marketplace.
The U.S. Digital Service and the Office of Federal Procurement Policy are working on a new certification for IT acquisition, one that will be mandatory a few years from now. Bill Weinberg, Managing Director of Federal Practice at Guidepost Solutions, says that the landscape of federal acquisition is changing, and altering the skillset as well.
“They’re constantly coming up with new rules and regulations about how to do this and prioritizing things like small business participation, and GWA- government wide vehicles that are constantly changing and being upgraded to meet this challenge,” said Weinberg.
“It is all behind the commercial marketplace.
What we are really trying to do is change the skill set of the contracting people to be able to buy in the commercial marketplace.”
