The White House will launch a task force to focus on breakthroughs in artificial intelligence for federal agencies. The National Science Foundation will work with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to expand AI education and resources.
- Erwin Gianchandani, deputy assistant director of Computer and Information Science and Engineering at the National Science Foundation and co-chair of the task force, said the goal is to bring together a multitude of resources into one to enable researchers, students and others to experiment and drive innovation.
- As called for by Congress, the task force is comprised of four members each from government, academia and private industry, which Gianchandani said is wise as it encourages diverse perspectives.
- Gianchandani said the task force is planning to release an interim report by around June of next year and a final report approximately six months after that.
