The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) may change its model for building care centers. The White House budget request lists billions of dollars for modernizing and building new centers.
- Greg Giddens, former chief acquisition officer at the Department of Veterans Affairs, now partner at Potomac Ridge Consulting, said it is important for the VA to solidify designs before building new facilities and to use standardized modules, which are used in the private sector.
- Giddens said the Biden administration is shifting direction from Building Realignment and Closure (BRAC) to putting up more new buildings and evaluating existing ones.
- Giddens said VA healthcare centers are much older on average than those in private industry and have deferred maintenance which must be addressed.
