Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall plans to move the Space Acquisition Directorate into the Space Acquisition and Integration Office. That merger, effective immediately, could accelerate the pace of fielding new capabilities.
- Deborah Lee James, former secretary of the Air Force, said the merger is “a good move” and that the Space Force should also focus on building a culture that accepts more risk and rewards speed in acquisition.
- James said the idea behind the merger is to consolidate disparate functions under one leader to improve acquisition focus and hopefully speed it up.
- James said there would be one acquisition leader at the Air Force headquarters and another leader in the field.
