The results are in for the Office of Personnel Management’s 2019 FISMA score, and the agency’s overall cybersecurity has improved. OPM closed 8 recommendations, and is currently ranked as having a “defined” cyber maturity level. Michael Esser, assistant inspector general for audits, OPM, says that these improvements were years in the making.
“Going back to 2015 when the breach occurred, we have seen significant improvement since then. Since this current maturity model of scoring the FISMA results has been put in place, OPM has scored what is called a level 2, where policies, procedures, and strategy is defined each year. But, I think there has been gradual improvement over those years,” Esser said.
