The Office of Personnel Management is working to make hiring former feds back into government easier. Right now, workers can only be rehired at the same pay grade they had when they’d left federal service. Managers have been clamoring for flexibilities in that structure. Bill Valdez, president of the Senior Executives Association, says the


“This is just the first step in the steps that we need to take to reform the hiring process in the federal government. The reality is that the next generation of workers will come in and out government on a regular basis. If we put artificial barriers in place of those workers, then we’re not going to retain them and we’re not going to get them back when we need them,” Valdez said.
