Nick Hart, CEO of the Data Coalition, discusses the current status of the Federal Data Strategy, and what might be changed in the final draft.

The Office of Management and Budget is seeking comments on their draft data strategy. The current timeline for the strategy is very ambitious, and may change depending on what they hear from stakeholders. Nick Hart, CEO of the Data Coalition, says that the current draft stresses both single-agency and multi-agency actions.

“There are some agencies that are targeted for specific actions, because they are the lead on a given topic. Financial data standards and geospatial data standards are targeted at specific communities,” Hart said. “There are also expectations for every agency across the board. One of the actions says that every agency should have a data governance process. That means you have to have leaders identified, and sort of anointed with responsibilities and empowered within an agency to actually make changes.”
