A new executive order on climate change risks includes action items and deadlines for federal agencies.

  • Terry Gerton, President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Academy of Public Administration, said the executive order suggests that potential risks from climate change and rewards for investing in climate mitigation strategies are undervalued.
  • Gerton said the executive order sets 120- and 180-day reporting requirements and advised organizations to start by identifying lending or grant-making programs impacted by climate costs.
  • Gerton said the initial reporting periods are the “beginning of the beginning” and will set the stage before a major United Nations meeting on climate change.
