President Biden’s nominee to become the under secretary of defense (comptroller), Mike McCord, will have a big say in the structure of the department after the end of the chief management office.

  • Mark Easton, former Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, said McCord will have an advantage from having been in the office before and will not have much of a learning curve.
  • Easton said since McCord was there in 2016, they built a data capability allowing for enterprise visibility for the first time, which aids the ongoing Defense Department audit.
  • Easton said the data repository helps identify systems that have deficiencies and should be discontinued, which is important from an audit perspective.
