The award of the JEDI contract to Microsoft means that the Department of Defense is moving one step forward in their technology plans. Roger Zakheim, director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Foundation and Institute, says that to get the best technology, the Pentagon needs to branch out beyond their usual contractors.

 

“The tech experts and the policy experts seem to agree that we need to draw outside the traditional sphere. They are doing this with this cloud contract and others,” Zakheim said. “That should enable the traditional positions where they’re looking to do acquisitions of defense platforms to integrate, to take advantage of the best in [technology,] Which for the most part resides outside the five sided palace.”
