More than 25,000 Navy and Marine Corps personnel will take part in Large Scale Exercise 2021 this summer. The biggest naval exercise of this generation will test the services to prepare for possible conflict with China or Russia.
- Adm. Jamie Foggo (USN-ret.), Distinguished Fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis, said Large Scale Exercise 2021 will use gaming and simulation to train Marines and Navy sailors.
- Foggo said the hybrid live and virtual concept allows the military to fine-tune training, tactics and strategy by taking risks and adjusting accordingly.
- A similar, 2018 exercise that Foggo commanded, Exercise Trident Juncture, included partners and allies; Foggo said Large Scale Exercise will focus on the United States, and interoperability with allies and partners can be incorporated later.
