Walt Francis, consultant & health insurance expert, discusses the approaching end to Open Season, and why every federal employee should examine their insurance options.

We’re at the eleventh hour for this year’s Open Season period. Federal employees who haven’t selected their insurance plans have only a few more days to consider their options. Walt Francis, consultant & health insurance expert, says that the amount of people making changes year to year is very small, which means that most employees could be leaving good options on the table.

“OPM is trying to tell people It is easy, actually, if you spend a few minutes focusing on this, to decide on how to spend a lot of money,” Francis said. “Two or three of the most popular plans costs thousands a year more than the best buys. We are talking about the GEHA Elevate plans, two new Aetna plans and Blue Cross basic and blue focus plans. Both are better than the Blue Cross standard plan that people sit in like a couch potato and would rather watch the Redskins game than save a couple grand.”
