The Pentagon has launched three suborbital rockets as part of its goal of advancing hypersonic technologies. These launches come shortly after China tested its own hypersonic vehicle. The U.S. Joint Hypersonics Transition Office, which just turned a year old, aims to establish a robust hypersonics workforce and research community.
- Gillian Bussey, director of the Joint Hypersonics Transition Office, said the goal is to get hypersonic technology to warfighters faster by ensuring investments are tied to warfighter needs, encouraging community collaboration and involving universities and U.S. allies.
- Bussey said her office is excited about recent developments, including a successful Raytheon HAWC missile system test, the Army’s progress on hypersonic weapons and strong support from Congress.
- She said working with universities encourages the flow of new ideas and helps build the workforce.
