Three Biden administration nominees are closer to taking their seats in the Pentagon after a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing Tuesday: Susanna Blume for director of cost assessment and program evaluation (CAPE), Heidi Shyu for under secretary of defense for research and engineering and Frank Kendall for Air Force secretary.

  • Bill Greenwalt, former Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Industrial Policy, said the officials coming in should “read as much as possible” beforehand and identify three priorities to work on.
  • Sharon Burke, Senior Advisor at New America, said the first action item will be to get to know the teams and get up to date on issues.
  • Burke said Shyu and Blume are both excellent choices.
