Efforts across the Department of Veterans Affairs aim to make the veteran’s experience smoother and easier. The Veterans Health Administration is no different, with pilot programs underway to improve healthcare for the citizens they serve. Dr. Richard Stone, executive in charge of the Veterans Health Administration, says that VHA has seen some major successes recently.
“Across our entire system, we have same-day access to mental healthcare. In a patient is in crisis, if they need help, we will see you today. We are working with open access of primary care in five different sites we’re really experimenting with. If somebody out of convenience wants to come in, we can get them in,” Stone said. “I think our access is better, our urgent access is frankly exceeding most of the commercial healthcare systems. We describe this as the most accessible healthcare system in the nation. There’s one or two commercial systems that could challenge us on that statement, but we are close.”
