A new zero-trust mandate from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) wants to boost security protections for critical government assets, but there are issues with implementing zero trust.

  • Mark Forman, executive VP of Dynamic Integrated Services and former federal chief information officer, said it is very important for agencies to first identify the assets in their IT architecture.
  • Agencies have to define their target state architecture and figure out what they need to change to put zero trust in place, which will take years, said Forman.
  • Forman said OMB and the White House must hold political appointees accountable for prioritizing system security and that political leaders must understand the risks involved.
