The human brain remains one of the greatest mysteries in science and one of the biggest challenges in medicine. The National Institutes of Health (NIH)’s Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies® (BRAIN) Initiative is funding research that’s beginning to unlock the mystery.
- John Ngai, director of the initiative, said the mission is to revolutionize understanding of the brain to ultimately find cures for major illnesses.
- The team is working hard to leverage talent from around the world and has funded over 1,200 projects and published over 5,000 papers, said Ngai.
- The investigators are improving deep brain stimulation to make progress on treating mood disorders and Parkinson’s disease.
