U.S. Northern Command is reviewing the results of a global information dominance exercise that applied artificial intelligence and machine learning. The commander of Northern Command, Gen. Glen VanHerck, says the exercise was a sample of the power of artificial intelligence.
- Robert Work, Former Deputy Secretary of Defense, said momentum behind artificial intelligence is starting to build across the Defense Department – in the services, the Office of the Secretary of Defense and research and development efforts.
- Work said the exercise showed the U.S. leads China in talent, hardware and algorithms and China leads in data, applications and integration.
- If China were to forcibly take over Taiwan and the United States could not access the computer chips made there, the U.S. would immediately be at a severe hardware disadvantage, said Work.
