Employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) have about a week to get vaccinated before disciplinary actions begin. The VA issued its own vaccine mandate months in advance of the federal requirement. The Nov. 22 deadline for federal employees to be fully vaccinated is fast approaching.
- Jonathan Alboum, former chief information officer of the Department of Agriculture, now federal chief technology officer at ServiceNow, said he suggests agencies opt for using purpose-built systems from platform companies to track employee vaccination status, which is better than developing their own technology or building on low-code options.
- Alboum recommends agencies think comprehensively about costs beyond initial software licensing costs, including implementation and long-term maintenance expenses.
- Much of the necessary training will probably be for the review and approval process, such as making decisions about exemptions and examining vaccination cards for validity, said Alboum.
