The Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced nearly $450 million in new grant funding, which will help ports expand capacity and improve the movement of goods through the supply chain.
- Lucinda Lessley, acting administrator of the Maritime Administration at DOT, said this “extraordinarily historic investment” will fund competitive grants available to ports and help strengthen supply chain resilience.
- She said there has not been adequate investment in ports for many years and this funding is almost double last year’s amount.
- She said the applications for ports are due mid-May and her administration hopes to award the funds in early fall.
