There are dozens of projects within the government to streamline acquisition, with the Department of Defense receiving much of the attention. Between the new authorities and offices, procurement teams throughout the Pentagon are testing out how to fast track their purchasing. Susanna Blume, senior fellow and director of the CNAS Defense Program, says that the services are all experimenting to find which approach works best.
“What we have is each of the services interpreting these new authorities a little bit differently. This is an experiment. It’s a laboratory now that we have running in real time with three different groups taking three different approaches,” Blume said.
