U.S. Naval Forces are participating in joint exercises with Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. These maritime exercises in the Red Sea aim to counter Iran and its influence in the region.
- Bradley Bowman, senior director for the Center on Military and Political Power at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said the exercises send a very positive message of deterrence to Iran, which has been smuggling weapons in its use of proxies to advance security objectives.
- Bowman said Iran’s efforts to sow regional instability, export terrorism and move towards nuclear weapons capabilities have pushed the United States, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain closer together.
- He said these are the first overt military exercises between the Arabs and Israelis, which is a “landmark big deal.”
