Last November, the Defense Department (DoD) released Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) 2.0. The purpose is to ensure contractors are meeting certain cybersecurity requirements to protect sensitive information.
- Matthew Travis, chief executive officer of the CMMC Accreditation Body, said his organization needs Americans interested in cybersecurity to become CMMC assessors and that it is a great entry point for getting into cyber.
- Travis said CMMC 2.0 removes extra standards and streamlines the system to be more accessible and adoptable, which he said will probably make it easier for companies and ease the cost burden.
- Travis recommended defense contractors start preparing now as the program rolls out instead of waiting for CMMC requirements to show up in contracts.
