The Defense Department’s (DoD) Office of Inspector General (OIG) has released its top 10 management challenges for fiscal year 2022, ranging from maintaining advantage in strategic competition to retaining a modern workforce.
- Courtney Fones, audit program director for readiness and global operations at the DoD OIG, said the department has made improvements and reforms in acquisition and contract management since last year but that her office highlighted this topic on the list to draw continued attention to the long-standing challenge.
- Fones said the challenge of building a modern workforce with advanced technological skills is key for strategic competition, and she said last year’s challenge that focused on data is still a common thread this year throughout other areas.
- She said the office looks at its oversight work, past reports, statutory requirements and input from DoD leaders and Congress to put together the list and said her team leaves room to add new projects later.
