Jen Easterly will head the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) after the Senate confirmed her unanimously last week. Easterly will be the second ever official leader for CISA.

  • Chris Cummiskey, former acting under secretary for management at the Department of Homeland Security and now chief executive officer at Cummiskey Strategic Solutions, said one of the biggest challenges for Easterly will be ensuring everyone is working together cohesively, along with setting a clear vision and measurable steps and being able to report to Congress and the White House.
  • Major players for cyber response along with CISA include the National Security Agency, U.S. Cyber Command, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the national cyber director, the Office of Management and Budget and the National Security Council deputy director, said Cummiskey.
  • Much of this structure was laid out in the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, a bipartisan coalition that has succeeded, despite its many skeptics, by focusing on clear, precise objectives, said Cummiskey.
