The Pentagon tests machine learning technologies aiming to increase data sharing among combatant commands. Those experiments are part of the larger Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) guiding concept, which aims to improve interoperability among military platforms.
- Todd Harrison, director of defense budget analysis and the Aerospace Security Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said having a framework for talking about JADC2 would enable people to better define and communicate its elements, helping increase support from Congress and progress on the military’s vision for future battle networks.
- Harrison said many efforts are underway for JADC2, including the Air Force’s Advanced Battle Management System, the Navy’s Project Overmatch, the Army’s Project Convergence and smaller projects at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and other organizations.
- Harrison said a cultural shift from a focus on big platforms to sensors, communications and data processing is necessary to speed up advancement of battle networks.
