The Small Business Administration (SBA) is closing the Paycheck Protection Program, a loan to help businesses retain employees during the COVID-19 crisis. It has awarded nearly $800 billion during the pandemic.
- Sanjay Gupta, chief technology officer at SBA, said having a strong cloud foundation enabled the agency to scale overnight and implement the Paycheck Protection Program at the beginning of the pandemic.
- Gupta said IT modernization allowed SBA to scale up very quickly from the perspectives of cybersecurity and staffing.
- Gupta emphasized that government organizations must think years ahead and have modern technology in place to respond quickly to any situation.
