The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency outlines five operational priorities in their new strategic intent document. These priorities fall under the mantra, “Defend today. Secure tomorrow.” Suzanne Spaulding, senior adviser for homeland security at the CSIS International Security Program, says that CISA’s description of themselves in the memo is very apt.
“I’m proud to say I saw a lot of continuity in that strategy going forward. Chris Krebs, the director, aptly summarized their mission right in the first sentence. CISA is the nation’s risk adviser, I think that’s a good way to capture a big part of the mission for that agency,” Spaulding said. “It is all about helping civilian government, the private sector and non-governmental entities do a better job of risk management. They also have some incident response and some direct protection for the government entities.”
