New satellite imagery shows China’s third aircraft carrier – its largest and most advanced – may be afloat soon.

  • In the last few days, the Chinese have flooded the dry dock where the carrier was under construction for a few years, indicating they are getting closer to initial trials, said Warren Strobel, national security reporter for The Wall Street Journal.
  • He said it will take at least a year of full sea trials before China can make the carrier fully operational and part of its active navy.
  • The carrier will enable China to project more power, and the developments are a cause for concern but not alarm, said Strobel.
