The Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough says the agency will revamp its electronic health records project. Carol Harris of the Government Accountability Office told “Government Matters” this week one of the biggest issues the agency has is who talks to whom about its technology issues.
- David Powner, former director of IT issues at the Government Accountability Office, now executive director of the Center for Data-Driven Policy and director of strategic engagement and partnerships at MITRE, said it is critical to continue elevating the authority of chief information officers and viewing them as strategic business partners in the executive management team.
- Gordon Bitko, former chief information officer at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, now senior vice president of policy at the Information Technology Industry Council, said chief information officers must be embedded in the mission and part of integrated teams at all levels, continuously throughout a project lifecycle.
- Powner said alignment of chiefs is especially important now with chief data officers and the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act.
