Putin is headed toward defeat in Ukraine, which would affect global stability, according to Liana Fix, fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.
- There is little likelihood of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia at this point in the war, but they are still possible, according to Fix.
- Putin is restructuring his military leadership again, showing disorder on the Russian side, and he has not achieved any of his goals in the war, which leads Fix to believe that Russia is headed toward defeat.
- Fix said that Russians will continue to stand behind Putin in the war until they feel like their efforts are futile, at which point the regime could potentially collapse.
- Russia’s defeat could open up a bright future for Ukraine and other surrounding countries, but it also could cause instability, especially around Turkey and China, she explained.
