Lt. Gen. Edward Daly, deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Materiel Command, discusses the top equipment modernization priorities in the Army, and how they’re using data analytics to properly equip soldiers.

The Army Materiel Command is in the process of updating the standard equipment used across the branch. One of their primary goals is not just to replace equipment that’s at the end of its usable lifespan, but fully modernize what gets brought into the theatre of war. The command’s top priorities include maintaining efficiency, and ensuring that troops have the right equipment.   “For the last 17 years we were really in a counter-insurgency fight, and now we’re shifting to large-scale combat operations. That brings with it some significantly different demands on our equipment,” Said Lt. Gen. Edward Daly, deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Materiel Command. “We are focused on those and we see ourselves very, very well. And quite frankly the readiness is to the point where we can fight and win our nations wars.”   Daly told Government Matters that the Army plans to use data analytics to determine the right time to replace equipment, which will preserve “unit integrity.”   “The analytics is above and beyond unit set. There’s sustainment stocks, classes of supply, and repair parts that are associated with it as well,” Daly said. “It not only gives the unit immediate equipping requirement, but it also gives them all of the classes that apply to sustain them in the battle space for a period of time.”
