The Biden administration’s topline fiscal 2022 budget request is out and includes $715 billion for the Defense Department.

  • Mackenzie Eaglen, Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, said the administration had limited time for the fiscal 2022 budget and will make more sweeping changes in the fiscal 2023 budget.
  • Eaglen said appropriators and authorizers in Congress have already started their work even though the detailed budget will not be out until next month.
  • The military services are waiting for more civilian leadership to be confirmed at the Defense Department to obtain more guidance and resolve budget disputes.
