White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki says the Biden administration’s first budget request is on the way. The discretionary guide will be the first indication agency leaders have of what could be coming in fiscal 2022.
- David Hawkings, Editor in Chief of The Fulcrum, said a “poisonous atmosphere” on Capitol Hill along with a history of a dysfunctional Congress and budget process make normal budgeting unlikely for yet another year.
- Although there could be trouble in the budget process between now and the end of September or later, the administration and Congressional appropriators will tackle many important priorities that do not make headlines, explained Hawkings.
- Hawkings will watch whether both chambers of Congress start working on their 12 bills.
