Now that the government has been funded for another year, Congress has moved on to appropriations. What has to be done in the next few weeks in order to make sure the money goes where it need to? “They have just under 30 days until the omnibus is due, but lawmakers on the hill are hoping for a couple of days ahead of that deadline,” said Sarah Ferris, budget and appropriations reporter at Politico. “They do not want to stumble into another shutdown like they did last month.” While the appropriations may seem like they are already half way done, David Hawkings, senior editor of CQ Roll Call, said that there is still a lot of work to go. “There’s tons of pressure on these people, the appropriators are being besieged about matters big and small,” Hawkings told Government Matters. “The appropriations process is supposed to be carved up into 12 pieces, at least as we talk right now, there’s not a precision about how big each of those 12 pieces is supposed to be.”
