A huge step is now in place for the Air Force’s Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS), which lays the groundwork for the system that connects all of the services together, Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2).
- Deborah Lee James, former secretary of the Air Force and author of “Aim High: Chart Your Course and Find Success,” said the Air Force is adding new capabilities, including new communication pods on the KC-46 tanker, to communicate the value-add of ABMS to Congress after funding cuts to the program.
- James and Gen. Hawk Carlisle (USAF, Ret.), president and chief executive officer of the National Defense Industrial Association and former commander of Air Combat Command, said the intangible nature of the program, competing for resources against other platforms, make it a tough sell to Congress.
- Carlisle said the United States government must find innovative ways to increase speed in the acquisition process to deliver capabilities to warfighters faster.
