Federal Chief Information Officer Clare Martorana says the board for the Technology Modernization Fund (TMF), a government funding vehicle encouraging innovation, received almost 100 project proposals for funding, which it will begin reviewing this month.

  • Dave Wennergren, Chief Executive Officer of ACT-IAC and former Navy Chief Information Officer, said the pandemic, the Colonial Pipeline cyberattack and other events have shown a major need for resiliency and that he hopes the TMF prioritizes certain topics, including cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
  • Wennergren said speed is imperative and it’s time to take on bigger, more challenging problems.
  • He added that many innovative solutions already exist in the private sector and elsewhere, and government agencies can use them instead of having to reinvent the wheel.
