Federal agencies have to finalize their return-to-office plans by July 19 at the request of the White House. The Safer Federal Workforce Task Force asks agencies to include phased reentry schedules and safety measures into their plans.

  • Jeff Neal, former Chief Human Capital Officer at the Department of Homeland Security, said agencies should include a lot of detail in their plans, such as which technology will be used, who has to come into the office and how often, and how they will ensure employee safety.
  • Neal said human capital leaders should provide support for managers working in a hybrid environment.
  • Managers should be aware that employees in high-demand occupations have options for places to work that can accommodate their work environment preferences, said Neal.
